On the loose: An alien parasite is attacking people at an American scientific research station in Antarctica. It looks like the people it attacks. In part because they don't know who has been absorbed, and because their paranoia could break them apart, this mission is more difficult than they thought it would be.

In 1982, John Carpenter's "The Thing," a box office dud, drove reviewers scrambling for the hills with its grisly, minute-by-minute effects. The film's physical effects still stand the test of time better than CGI, but most of the other life lessons you may take from this film are this best avoided. That is, unless you like spending time in prison.
